Pakistani fashion is making waves in the West recently. The reasons are two-fold. Number one, the abolition of quotas on Pakistani textiles has opened America to the treasures of Pakistani fashion. This has enriched both cultures tremendously and encouraged an exchange of talent. The second factor has been the resurgence of modest clothing in recent years. Americans are increasingly finding tight and tiny clothing to be impractical, uncomfortable, and actually uncool. TIME magazine highlighted the emergence of tunic tops for instance.

Pakistani fashion scene is expanding rapidly in all dimensions. For one, the Pakistani fashion model pool is growing and is capturing international attention. The number of Pakistani boutiques and Pakistani fashions magazines, including Visage, Women’s Own, and Rivaaj is a testament to growing fashion world. Elegant salwar kameez and kurtas are in every magazine. Photographers like Deebees, Jimmy, and Ather Shahzed are shooting amazing mag folds. A talent pool of designers such as Hasan Shehryaar, BG, and Nikki n’ Neal has arrived. Akif is a double threat who combines photography skills with makeup artistry and has done the work for Zarmina.

The Pakistani fashion is not without its spice. There is a growing rivalry between Karachi and Lahore models that is worth a talk of its own. The Karachi models have a sense of superiority, given that high Pakistani fashion emerged in their city. They consider the upstarts in Lahore to be crude and garish in their efforts to impress. The Lahoris feel they have arrived and have the egos to boot. Besides, Lahore is the movie capital and the actresses that double as fashion models such as Zara and Iman bring their airs with them. The Karachi talents are Iraj (catwalk queen), Rubab; Suneeta Marshall and ZQ are newer popular faces. The Lahore pool has Vaneeza (the first supermodel), Amina Haq (who starred in a popular “Chicago” themed music video), and recently Mehreen Syed, who has stormed onto the scene and is to do an Indian film.

An interesting footnote about Pakistani fashion must be made regarding Amina Shafat, a top 5 model in Pakistan who has modeled for Zarmina as well. Amina has refused to do any shoots featuring immodest clothing. Despite her boldness, her work assignments have only increased!

As Bollywood fashion goes, so goes South Asian fashion. For the past decade, the designers of the largest film industry in the world have been shaping the fashion of Indian and Pakistani clothing. Recently, Bollywood fashion is transcending and making a major impact on Western style as well. Things weren’t always this way. Let’s learn more about the cultural phenomenon that is known as Bollywood.

Until the late 1980s, Hindi films demonstrated limited sense of style. Clothing was either everyman clothing or way over the top garish. Bollywood designers came to the limelight ever since Manish Malhotra did those catchy numbers for Urmila Matondkar in Rangeela. It was all upwards from there. Bollywood fashion became a force to be reckoned with. When Sushmita Sen appeared in flowing saris in a recent hit, this traditional dress got a big boost into urban style. Shamita Shetty made the sharara a hit with aptly titled “Sharara Sharara”. Finally, Priyanka Chopra made the red dupatta (stole) synonymous with Bollywood fashion.

Hindi films may have inspired Indian style over the last two decades, but the fascinating phenomenon is the transcendence of Bollywood fashion to the West. The recent tunic top craze is one example. Everyone from tween to grandmother is dying to get one. The recent bohemian or ethnic clothing wave is driven by Indian, and hence Bollywood fashion. Most of all, there seems to be no end in sight. TIME, MSN, and even Bella Online are unified in their praise of the hot ethnic trend. The comfort, elegance, and especially the versatility of Indian clothing are not lost to the western public. For instance, various kurtas (tunic tops) can be worn to the beach, a tea party, the mall, or even a grand formal!

Where should you look for hip Bollywood fashion? A local Indian boutique is not a bad start. Another good place is the web. Plenty of sites such as Benzer and Seasons offer good choices. The latest kid on the block is our own Zarmina.com. We offer silk embroidered high quality wears not available anywhere else. What sets us apart is the creation of designer haute couture that is delivered to your doorstep. These designer outfits are of the same quality that prevails in Bollywood scene today.

To help you get gorgeous with ease on you D Day, we have tips from celebrated international make up artiste Bobbi Brown’s new book Bobbi Brown: Makeup Manual to decipher some of the hottest beauty trends from the catwalk and tell you how to re-create the look for your wedding daySmokey eye makeup: "Smokey lavender eyes are young, fun and edgy. If you're the adventurous bride, this is a great look for you. The trick is to balance the color on your eyes with neutrals on your lips and cheeks."

Get the look: "Start with a light neutral eye shadow (tip: choose one that's the same shade as your brow bone) applied all over your eyelid from the lashline to the browbone. Next, smudge a medium lavender shimmer shadow on the lower lid, working the color into the crease. To make your eyes pop, define them with black eyeliner. Using an eye liner brush, layer a deep eggplant shadow over the black liner. Apply the shadow as close to the base of the lashes as possible, graduating the color across the lower lid. Finish with several coats of black waterproof mascara."

Dewy Skin: "Dewy skin, flushed coral cheeks and peachy-pink lips make this a picture perfect bridal look."

Get the Look: "Even out your complexion with a yellow-toned moisturizing foundation. Next, dust a golden bronzer on your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. Make cheeks pop with coral blush applied on the apples of the cheeks. Finish with a high shine lip gloss in the same hue as your blush."

Timeless look: “If you are a bride that wants a romantic and timeless look on your wedding day, wear this classic red lip."

Get the look: "You don't want any redness in your complexion to compete with your red lip, so make sure to even out your skin with yellow-toned concealer and foundation. Keep your eye makeup subtle by using neutral, matte eye shadows and charcoal or black eye liner. Curl lashes and apply 2 to 3 coats of black mascara. Sweep a sandy pink blush across the apples of the cheek and be sure to blend the color back towards your hairline. Red lipstick requires precise application, so use a lip brush to line and fill in lips. To keep the color from feathering, trace your natural lip line with red lip pencil. For a high-shine look, top lips with clear lip gloss."

Fresh look: "This look is clean, fresh, and modern. The white shimmery eye and soft pink lip are great for the bride that wants a subtle, natural look."

Get the Look: "Start with a luminizing foundation and yellow-toned concealer to even out your skin and give it a subtle glow. Next, dust a white shimmer shadow all over your lid. Use a black gel liner to draw a thin, precise line across your upper lashline, then apply 2 to 3 coats of black mascara. Choose neutral pinks for your lips and cheeks. For the most natural-looking flush, apply the blush on the apples of your cheeks, blending back to your hairline and down. Use your fingers to press the lipstick onto your lips - this creates a soft, stained look."

Eye makeup: "If you are an 'eye' girl, this is your big day look. Smokey eyes and pale pink lips are a great combination for brides that want to feel sexy and sultry."

Get the Look: "Apply a charcoal grey eye shadow on the lower lid up to the crease. Follow with a slightly lighter shade that has shimmer or sparkle, layered over the first shade; the shimmer will help blend the dense, dark pigment of the first shadow. Line your upper and lower lashlines with a black gel liner. To soften the liner on the lower lashline, smudge a soft, charcoal shimmer shadow over it. Finish with several coats of black waterproof mascara. Dress up lips with a pale pink lip color, then add clear lip gloss to take it to the next level."

Dramatic look: "This look is glamorous and dramatic. It's all about strong eyes and deep lips."

Get the look: "Use yellow-toned concealer, foundation and powder to give skin a polished glow. Blend a shimmery blackish blue cream shadow on the lower lid up to the crease. Apply black gel liner on your upper and lower lashlines, followed with false lashes and at least 3 coats of black mascara. Blot a deep, rich wine lipstick on lips, followed by a high shine pearly lip gloss for a bit of softness."

Sun-kissed look: "A warm sun-kissed look perfect for a bride with a destination wedding."

Get the Look: "Use bronzing powder to make sure that your face, neck and chest are the same color. Apply a shimmery highlighting powder on the high points of your cheekbones for a flattering glow. Sweep a golden bronze shadow on your lower lids, followed by a champagne gold shadow applied in the crease. Play up lips with a neutral beige lipstick and rosy gold lip gloss."

He sticks to the fashion rules for suits, which is usage of white, black and shades of grey, but he does not shy away from experimenting also. Check him out in this white suit teamed with pink shirt, as he looks macho in it too. If you want to look like Shahrukh then use mostly black suits with no tie teamed with big dial watches, which is the only accessory for the dress.

b) Metrosexual Man: Want to look cool, casual and yet stylish, then check out SRK’s fashion. His casual wear clothes are lazy looking, yet stylish. It has taken Priyanka Chopra quite some time and a lot of hard work to get her derailed career back on track. Her career graph hit an all-time low last year with the consecutive failure of her four films - Love Story 2050, Drona, God Tussi Great Ho and Chamku.

Now that the damage has been undone (thanks to a hat trick of hits, Dostana, Fashion , Kaminey and a Best Actress IIFA award to boot), the dusky damsel can heave a sigh of relief and treat herself to a holiday.

Well, that’s what she’s done. She’s packed her bags and flew out of the country off to an undisclosed holiday destination in the East with a bunch of friends and cousins. In case you’re wondering, the bunch of buddies doesn’t include Shahid Kapur.

Priyanka’s father, who’s a doctor, tells a tabloid that a holiday was long due for his daughter. The actress has been stressing herself with too much work and she even fainted a couple of times due to exhaustion.

Now, a holiday with friends and family at a location where paparazzi won’t be on her back would do a lot of good to the actress.

So much for not shopping! I blew that big time when I deked out of work early recently to hit Aritzia (aritzia.com). I am absolutely blown away by their in-house Wilfred line. I’ve been watching it for a few seasons but WOW has it ever exploded–great styling and just the prices I’m willing to shell out for all the season’s “it” pieces. Faux-leather leggings (shown) are a such a steal at $98 (looking ever so much like the Helmut Lang ones at 10, count ‘em 10 times the price!!), that they’ve found their way into numerous FASHION editors’ closets. But I didn’t stop there–a perfect boyfriend jacket, floaty tunic dress and perfectly-shaped black cardigan later I’m a happy camper.

Salman Taseer is a politician, an entrepreneur, a businessman and what not, but more importantly he is controversial. It is either what he says or what he does, or what his family says or what his family does. Controversy is synonymous to Taseers.

It is Sara Taseer who managed to do it this time. Sara Taseer’s tweet reads “Farah Khan is a curse from hell. Farah Khan needs to find something better to do than to harass me.”

Background run on this tweet is that Farah Khan has accused Sara Taseer of plagiarism. This shocked accusation came in the form of a letter to Pakistani media from Farah Khan. Farah Khan is not so shocked with the plagiarism but with the boldness more. Farah Khan can’t believe how Sara Taseer planned to get away with it. Moreover, Farah Khan doesn’t understand either why Sara Taseer makes no sense to talk to.

Sara Taseer is being vocally defended by only Taseer’s newspaper and that to on political grounds. It is hard to believe that Sara Taseer expects anyone to!

Yes, I am a proud Pakistani; but believing Sara Taseer over Farah Khan and that too over plagiarism. Umm tough one!
